Serving Toronto & the GTA since 1979 · 24/7 emergency repair · one contractor for every opening

A commercial aluminum entrance is the door your customers, staff and deliveries pass through every day — an aluminum-framed leaf, usually glazed, hung in matching aluminum framing. It is the standard for storefronts, office lobbies, clinics and institutions because it carries a large area of glass on slim sightlines, shrugs off weather without rusting, and takes any colour you need.
Canuck Door Systems designs, supplies, installs and services these systems as one team. Many of the names ranking online are fabricators — they sell you the aluminum and leave the rest to you. We measure the opening, prepare the shop drawings, source the glass and hardware, install it with our own crews, and back it with 24/7 repair. One point of responsibility, from the drawing to the door closer.
Systems & configurations we supply
We supply commercial aluminum entrances in every standard configuration — single doors and pairs, with or without sidelites and transoms, in narrow, medium or wide stile. Which one you need comes down to three things: daily traffic, the hardware the opening has to carry, and whether the frame is exterior and therefore needs a thermal break.
- Single doors and pairs, with or without sidelites and transoms.
- Narrow, medium and wide stile — matched to your traffic, hardware and door size.
- Thermally broken framing for exterior openings — controls condensation and heat loss.
- Prepped for your hardware: closers, panic / exit devices, pulls, offset pivots or continuous hinges.
- Automatic-operator ready, including AODA power assist (see automatic doors).
- Systems we install: Windspec, Commdoor, Herd and equivalents.

Glass, finish & hardware options
Three choices decide how an aluminum entrance looks and performs: the glazing, the frame finish, and the hardware. All three are specified per opening — we match an existing storefront, hit a brand colour, and prep the door for the exact closers, locks and exit devices the building needs.
Glazing
Clear, tempered, laminated (security & sound), low-E (energy), tinted and spandrel — matched to code and use.
Finish
Clear, bronze or black anodized, and custom powder-coat in any colour. Match an existing storefront or roll a brand colour out across sites.
Hardware
Closers, panic / exit devices, pulls and push bars, offset pivots or continuous (piano) hinges, thresholds, weatherstrip and sweeps — supplied, installed and repaired.

Aluminum, hollow metal or wood — how to choose
Choose aluminum when the opening is a glazed entrance, storefront or lobby; hollow metal when it needs security, durability or a fire rating; and wood for finished interior openings. The deciding constraint is usually the fire rating: an aluminum entrance cannot carry one, so a rated opening needs a different door.
| Aluminum | Hollow metal (steel) | Wood | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Glazed entrances, storefronts, lobbies | Security, fire-rated & exterior service openings | Interior & finished office openings |
| Strengths | Slim sightlines, big glass, won’t rust, any colour | Strength, security, fire ratings, durability | Warmth, fire-rated wood options, cost |
| Watch-outs | Not fire-rated; thermally break exterior frames | Heavier; protect from corrosion | Not for wet / high-traffic exteriors |
| What drives cost | Glass area, stile width, finish and hardware | Gauge and whether the assembly is fire-rated | Core and finish; fire-rated wood costs more |
Need a fire rating? Aluminum entrances can’t carry one. We’ll put the right product in the opening instead — see fire-rated doors and hollow metal & steel doors.
How a project runs
An aluminum entrance project runs in five stages, from site measure to handover. Most of the calendar time is glass and hardware lead time rather than installation — once the material is on site, a standard door or pair goes in quickly, and we can work after hours to keep you open.
- Site measure. We measure the opening and confirm swing, hardware and glass.
- Shop drawings & submittals. For projects that need them, we prepare and manage them.
- Fabrication. The door and frame are built to the approved drawings.
- Installation. Fitted by our own crews — often after hours to keep you open.
- Service & maintenance. 24/7 repair and preventative plans keep it working.

One of these jobs is written up in full, from the worn-out door that came out to the three-week build that replaced it: aluminum storefront door replacement in Mississauga for Mérieux NutriSciences.
Two more entrance jobs are written up: every entrance on a Toronto school replaced in one summer shutdown, eleven Windspec 655 frames with HTP wide stile doors — commercial aluminum door retrofit in Toronto; and a black anodized storefront with twelve aluminum doors and a corner built at 108° — commercial storefront systems in Scarborough.
And two with doors at their centre: a secure west entrance with medium stile doors and a glazed vestibule — glass aluminum doors in Toronto for Temple Sinai; and a new restaurant's storefront, doors, bi-folds and sliders, finished ahead of opening day — glass aluminum doors in Mississauga for Happy Singh.
Four decades of doors for names Ontario knows — Canada’s Wonderland, Tim Hortons, Canadian Tire, the LCBO, Metrolinx, Marriott & Hilton hotels, the University of Toronto — plus thousands of businesses across the GTA. Dependable people, quality products, since 1979.

What drives the price — and how to get a firm one
The cost of a commercial aluminum entrance comes down to a handful of choices:
- Door size, and single vs. a pair with sidelites or a transom
- Stile width and whether the frame is thermally broken
- Glazing — clear, tempered, laminated or low-E
- Finish — stock anodized vs. a custom powder-coat colour
- Hardware — closers, panic devices, access control, automatic operators
- Site conditions and whether the old opening needs removal and haul-away
Rather than post a misleading starting price, we measure your opening and send back a firm, itemised quote — free, and with no obligation.
Common questions
How thick are commercial aluminum doors?
Most commercial aluminum entrance doors use a 1¾-inch (44 mm) leaf. What changes is the stile — the vertical rails on each side of the glass. Narrow stile gives the most glass and the lightest look; medium and wide stiles add room for panic hardware, heavier use and larger pulls. We recommend the stile based on your traffic, hardware and door size.
How much do commercial aluminum entrance doors cost?
It depends on the size, stile width, glazing, finish, hardware and whether the frame is thermally broken — a single narrow-stile door is a very different number from a pair with sidelites, panic hardware and low-E glass. Rather than quote a misleading “from” price, we measure the opening and give you a firm, itemised quote at no charge.
Can an aluminum entrance or storefront be fire-rated?
Standard aluminum entrance doors are not fire-rated — aluminum’s melting point is too low for a rated assembly. Where an opening needs a fire rating we supply hollow-metal or fire-rated wood doors instead. Tell us the rating you need and we’ll spec the right product.
What are the disadvantages of aluminum doors?
Two things to know. Aluminum conducts heat, so for exterior openings we use a thermally broken frame to stop condensation and heat loss. And it isn’t the choice for fire-rated or high-security back-of-house openings — hollow metal is. Its strengths are why storefronts use it: it won’t rust, needs almost no maintenance, carries large areas of glass on slim sightlines, and takes any anodized or powder-coat colour.
Aluminum or hollow metal — which should I choose?
Aluminum for glazed entrances and storefronts where you want light, sightlines and a finished look. Hollow metal for security, fire-rated openings, and heavy-duty or back-of-house service doors. Many buildings use both, and we supply and install either — so the recommendation isn’t tied to what we happen to sell.
Can you match our existing storefront or brand colour?
Yes. Aluminum takes clear or coloured anodized finishes and custom powder-coat colours, so we can match an existing storefront or roll a brand colour out consistently across multiple locations. Send us the colour or a sample and we’ll match it.
Do you repair aluminum doors, or only install new ones?
Both. Alongside new supply and installation we repair aluminum entrances — closers, pivots, hinges, thresholds, weatherstrip and broken glass — and we run 24/7 emergency service for a door that won’t lock or close. We can make the opening safe first and schedule the permanent fix after.
How long does fabrication and installation take?
Usually 4–6 weeks from the day the drawings are approved. Most of that is glass and hardware lead time, plus any shop drawings or submittals your project requires — which we prepare and manage for you. Once the material is on site, a typical single door or pair is a short install.
Planning an aluminum entrance — or need one repaired?
Tell us about the opening and we’ll send a firm quote. Broken door right now? Call and we dispatch 24/7.
