The glass that goes back into a commercial opening in Stoney Creek

Commercial glazing is a small number of make-ups, not one product, and most openings combine two or three of them. Which one goes back into a broken opening in Stoney Creek is settled by three things: where the Ontario Building Code says safety glazing is required, how deep the glazing pocket is in the frame that is staying, and what broke the last one. Safety glazing is certified to CAN/CGSB-12.1, and in or beside a door it is not optional.

Broken glass repair, or replacing the window or door?

Most broken commercial glass in Stoney Creek is a glass job. The frame is straight, the anchoring is sound, the hardware still works, and only the lite has failed — so the opening is reglazed and nothing else changes. Replacement earns its place when the thing that failed is the frame: bent or corroded aluminum, a dead thermal break, or a glazing pocket too shallow for the unit the opening now needs. On a door there is a third answer that rarely gets offered — the leaf and frame stay, and the glass and the hardware around it are rebuilt in place.

Glass and windows for the work Stoney Creek buildings do

The sectors that dominate Stoney Creek — advanced manufacturing, logistics and distribution, food and beverage processing — each break their glass in a different way.

Advanced manufacturing

Plant glass fails from vibration, impact and heat as often as from forced entry — a cracked vision lite in a shop door, a stressed pane beside a bay. We match the make-up to what broke it rather than putting the same lite back.

Logistics and distribution

Glass in a distribution building is the office half: the entrance lite a driver walks through and the dispatch window onto the floor. A forklift catches one of them eventually, and the room has to be secure by the next shift, not next week.

Food and beverage processing

Vision panels and interior glazing in a food or pharma plant have to go back in cleanable and properly sealed, and the reglaze has to fit a sanitation window. We work the shutdown rather than asking for one.

Commercial retail

Shopfronts take the damage: forced entry overnight, a display bay hit from the pavement, a door lite starred by a cart. We board the opening the same night, measure while we are there, and glaze early enough that you trade the next morning.

Offices & business parks

An office building breaks glass quietly — a lobby lite chipped at the edge, a stairwell pane cracked, sealed units fogging one elevation at a time because they were all glazed the same week. Most of it is scheduled work, not an emergency.

Healthcare & clinics

A taped-up lite in a waiting room is the thing patients photograph. Clinic and hospital glass goes back as the safety glazing it came out as, in hours that do not collide with the clinic list, and is made safe immediately where it cannot.

Broken glass in Stoney Creek: board-up first, then the reglaze

If the opening is open to the street, call 800-522-6825 rather than filling this in — the line is answered 24 hours and the board-up comes first. For a cracked lite, a fogged unit or a quote to reglaze, tell us the opening and roughly how big it is.

Photos or shop drawings are enough to quote from, and most quotes go out within a day to a week. One-year warranty on products, three months on labour. BBB Rating A+.

Common questions about commercial glass & window repair

What is the strongest glass for a commercial opening?

For resisting a person trying to get in, laminated glass — two lites bonded to a plastic interlayer that holds the fragments and the opening together even after the glass breaks. Tempered is about four times stronger than ordinary annealed glass of the same thickness and breaks safely, but it still leaves the frame empty, so it is a safety product rather than a security one. Where break-ins are the recurring problem, the honest answer is often laminated glass plus a shutter or grille rather than thicker glass alone.

What can I use to temporarily fix a broken window?

Tape holds fragments together for photographs and nothing else — it does not make an opening secure or weathertight, and it leaves loose glass in a frame above a pavement. The real answer is a board-up: the remaining glass is cleared out, and plywood is cut and fixed into the frame so the building locks tonight. Ours is done with the glazing stops so the frame is not damaged, and the plywood comes out the day the new unit goes in.

Can broken glass be repaired, or does it have to be replaced?

In a commercial building it is replaced. A chip in a windshield can be filled because laminated automotive glass is built for it; architectural glass is not. Tempered glass that has been broken has released its stress and is finished, a cracked annealed lite is a safety-glazing failure waiting to happen, and a sealed unit with a broken lite has lost its cavity. What can genuinely be repaired is the frame and the hardware around the glass, which is often what actually failed.
