Automatic sliding doors and swing-door operators in Burlington — which one an opening needs
These are two different products, not two brands of one, and the difference decides what an opening in Burlington actually needs. An automatic sliding door is a purpose-built package — leaves, framing, header operator and sensors engineered together — and the panel slides, so it needs no swing arc. An automatic door opener for a swing door is a motor added to a hinged door, usually one already hanging. Canuck Door Systems installs and services both across Burlington; traffic and floor space settle the choice before budget does.
Automatic doors for the work Burlington buildings do
The sectors that dominate Burlington — manufacturing, food processing, logistics — each ask something different of an automatic entrance.
Manufacturing
Personnel doors on plants earn operators where hands are full: push-plate and wave activation on the routes between floor and office, and universal washroom packages where the office block needs them.
Food processing
Touchless is the point: wave-activated operators keep hands off door hardware between wash stations, offices and production — activation chosen to work with gloves and sanitation routines.
Logistics
A warehouse’s automatic door is at the front, not the dock: a barrier-free operator on the office entrance, and a slider where staff cross between office and floor all shift.
Corporate offices
Barrier-free entrances are the ask: low-energy operators on the accessible route, sliders on busy vestibules, and universal washroom packages — the accessibility checklist, installed and serviced.
Condos & property management
Condo lobbies pair an operator with the entrance the fobs already control: barrier-free access for residents, sequenced with the intercom and electric lock rather than fighting them.
Hotels & hospitality
Guests arrive with their hands full: entrance sliders that open before the luggage cart reaches them, and swing operators on accessible rooms and amenity doors.

Common questions about automatic doors
Can you open an automatic door in a power failure?
Yes, and on an egress route it is a requirement rather than a nicety. Sliding doors on an exit route are built with break-out panels: push the leaf hard from inside and it swings out of its track to give a clear opening. Swing doors with a low-energy operator can simply be pushed open manually when the power is off — the operator declutches. What you should not assume is that a given door does this: break-out is a specified feature, and a slider bought without it stays shut. We confirm which behaviour an existing door has as part of an inspection.
Do automatic doors have to be tied into the fire alarm?
Often, and it is one of the details that gets missed on a retrofit quotation. Where a door is on an egress route or in a rated separation, its behaviour on alarm has to be specified — some doors are required to open and stay open, others to close and latch, and holding a rated door open on a magnet is only permitted where it releases on alarm. The rule follows the opening's role in the building, not the operator's brand, so it is decided with the door, not after it.
How much does it cost to make an existing door automatic?
Adding a low-energy operator to a door that already hangs correctly is the least expensive way into automation, and the price is driven by three things rather than by the operator itself: whether there is power at the head of the opening, whether the frame and leaf can carry the load, and how many activation points you want. Running a new circuit to a header on an existing masonry wall routinely costs more than the operator does. That circuit is electrical work, so it has to be run by a certified electrical contractor, and it normally sits outside our scope. What we do is tell you exactly what the operator needs at the header before you order, so the electrician can be booked in alongside the door rather than chased afterwards.
