Security Shutters & Grilles across St. Catharines
We work throughout St. Catharines — Port Weller Industrial Park, Commerce Place Industrial Park, Dunkirk Road Industrial Area, Glendale Employment Area and the blocks around them. The buildings here are mostly healthcare and social assistance, retail trade and manufacturing, and each puts different demands on a door: traffic volume, insurance and fire requirements, and how much downtime an opening can afford. St. Catharines’s 136,803 residents keep those buildings busy.

Broken shutter, grille or gate in St. Catharines: we dispatch 24/7.
St. Catharines is roughly a 80-minute run from our Mississauga shop — less if a technician is already in the area. Planned work, measures and maintenance travel there without difficulty; on a middle-of-the-night emergency we will tell you the drive time on the phone, and what to do to make the opening safe until we arrive.
Emergency board-up, security and make-safe first — permanent repair scheduled after.
Which closure fits the opening
We specify to the opening rather than to one catalogue, and we service any make. Most of what goes on a St. Catharines building comes from three manufacturers — Pentagon, MobilFlex and Emart — and the opening usually decides which one before the budget does.
Pentagon security shutters — storefronts, counters and houses
Pentagon build rolling security shutters in three lines, and between them they cover a shop front, a counter and a house window. We supply, install and service all three in St. Catharines, and we carry the parts that fail first.

MobilFlex rolling and side-folding closures
MobilFlex, from Québec, build the closures on mall units, bank lobbies, airport shops and school serveries — the ones that must lock a space in St. Catharines and still let people see into it. They come two ways: rolling up into a coil, or folding sideways into a stack at the jamb, and which one suits an opening in St. Catharines is usually decided by the headroom above it.

Emart expandable security gates
An expandable, or scissor, gate is the simplest closure there is: a steel lattice that pulls across the opening and folds back to a narrow stack at the side. Emart Factory, a Toronto supplier on Magnetic Drive, sell them for storefronts, pharmacies, warehouses and homes, and we measure, fit and repair them in St. Catharines — most often on a back door or a unit in St. Catharines with no room for a coil.

Inside the glass, outside it, or not allowed at all in St. Catharines
Three positions are possible and they are not equally available. What a St. Catharines tenant may fit is often settled by somebody else before price is discussed at all.
Security shutters on houses and cottages in St. Catharines
Houses are a real part of this work: basement and ground-floor windows, a cottage closed for the winter, a garage, a sliding patio door. Two products do most of it.

A shutter slows a break-in down; it does not stop one
No grille, gate or shutter makes a building in St. Catharines impossible to get into. What it does is turn a ten-second smash-and-grab into a noisy job with tools — and that time is only worth something if the rest of the building uses it. Treat the closure as one layer of a security plan for the St. Catharines property, not the plan itself.
What a shutter or grille costs in St. Catharines, and what moves the number
Everything here is built to a measured opening, so there is no list price to quote. Three things move a number more than width does.
After hours, when it will not go up — on any make
A shutter jammed down is a business in St. Catharines that cannot open, and one jammed up is a business that cannot close. We repair Pentagon, MobilFlex and Emart closures and most other makes in St. Catharines, whoever installed them.

Shutters and grilles for the work St. Catharines buildings do
The sectors that dominate St. Catharines — healthcare and social assistance, retail trade, manufacturing — each have something different to shut away, and a different hour to do it in.
Healthcare and social assistance
Pharmacy windows, records rooms, cash and specimen hatches. The closure is usually small, always locked, and inspected as part of the department rather than the building — and on an exit route it has to be openable from inside without a key, which rules some hardware out before price does.
Retail trade
This is the trade’s home ground. A solid slat curtain outside the glass stops the glass being broken at all; a folding grille behind it keeps the window shopping while the unit is shut. Which you can have is often the landlord’s call, not yours — a mall fit-out manual usually names the closure and sometimes the finish.
Manufacturing
A plant closes fewer openings than it protects: the tool crib, the maintenance store, the office window onto the shop floor. A shutter over a service counter goes up at shift change and down at the end of it — which means the operation matters more than the specification, and a crank in an awkward corner gets left open.
Accommodation and food services
Anywhere a shutter meets a wash-down or a controlled area the finish is the whole question — mill finish aluminum, powder coat, or stainless where it is hosed. Counter shutters over serveries and dispensaries close the opening without closing the room, and the guides have to be cleanable rather than merely cleaned.
Educational services
Canteens, tuck shops, gyms and libraries inside a building that stays open around them. A folding grille across a corridor closes a wing after hours and stacks flat against a jamb in the morning; a counter shutter closes the servery without closing the hall. Exit routes govern both.
General contractors & new builds
Shutters and grilles are ordered off the drawings and fitted near the end, which is when the opening turns out to be the size it was built rather than the size it was drawn. Head room for the barrel and a power supply at the right side are the two things worth confirming before the walls close in — both are inexpensive now and dear later.

Common questions about security shutters & grilles
Do I need a fire-rated shutter?
Only if the opening is in a fire-rated wall or separation — and then it is a legal requirement rather than a choice. A fire shutter is a different, labelled product that closes automatically on alarm and has to be drop- tested to prove it still does. A security shutter in the same opening does not satisfy the code. We build both, and the fire-rated ones live on their own page with the inspection they require.
Should a security shutter go inside or outside?
Inside where you can. An interior shutter is out of the weather, out of reach of vandalism and graffiti, keeps the shopfront looking like a shopfront, and rarely needs a permit or landlord approval for appearance. Exterior mounting wins when there is no interior room for the coil and guides, when the glass itself needs protecting from impact rather than the goods behind it, or when the opening has no glazing at all. Heritage and BIA districts often have a view on this, and it is worth asking before ordering.
What is the difference between a shutter, a grille and a gate?
A shutter is a solid or perforated curtain of interlocking slats that rolls up into a coil above the opening — it closes the opening completely. A grille is the same idea built from links or rods you can see through, so a window display stays visible after hours. A folding gate does not roll at all: it slides sideways along a track and stacks like a concertina, which is the answer when there is no headroom for a coil. All three secure an opening; the choice is usually made by headroom and by whether you want to be seen into.
