The buildings here are mostly energy, engineering and environmental, advanced manufacturing and aerospace and transportation, logistics and warehousing, and each puts different demands on a door: traffic volume, insurance and fire requirements, and how much downtime an opening can afford. Pickering’s 99,186 residents keep those buildings busy.

Pickering is roughly a 50-minute run from our Mississauga shop — less if a technician is already in the area — so a truck is usually on site the same day.

Common questions about doors
What is a traffic door?
A double-acting door that swings both ways and closes itself, fitted in an opening people and equipment pass through constantly — a kitchen service opening, a stockroom entrance, an aisle between warehouse zones. There is no latch and usually no handle: you push through it, and it swings back to closed on its own hinges. That is the whole design brief, and everything else about the door follows from being hit thousands of times a year.
Why won't my door latch any more?
Nine times out of ten the frame has moved, not the door. A frame that has been pushed out of square by a cart, settled with the building, or lost an anchor will throw the strike out of line with the latch, and the door starts needing a shove. Adjusting the hinges or the closer treats the symptom. We check the frame for square and the anchors for grip first, because that is usually where the fix is.
What do loading dock bumpers do?
They absorb the impact of a reversing trailer and, just as importantly, they hold the trailer at a fixed distance from the building. That standoff is what protects everything else on the dock: the seal or shelter in front of the wall, the leveler lip, the door track and bottom section, and the concrete face itself. A bumper is a sacrificial component — it is meant to wear out, and replacing it is far less expensive than replacing what it protects.
How often should an automatic door be inspected?
A daily safety check by your own staff, and a full inspection once a year by a certified technician. The daily check takes about a minute — watch one full cycle and confirm the door does not touch anyone, that the signage and guide rails are intact, and that nothing has been placed in the door path. The annual inspection is the one that matters legally: our technicians hold AAADM certification for it, and it covers sensor coverage, speeds, forces, hold-open times, safety devices, break-out and signage.
Do you service high-speed doors you did not install?
Yes. Curtains, drives, controls, sensors and activation devices are serviceable across the common makes, and curtain replacement in particular is routine — it is the wearing part. Where a control board or drive is proprietary and no longer supported, we will tell you that plainly, because that is the case where continuing to repair costs more than replacing.
How do you adjust a Herculite glass door that isn’t closing properly?
Almost always at the floor closer or the patch fittings. A concealed floor closer has adjustments for closing speed, latch speed and hold-open, and an all-glass door that stands open, slams or fails to latch usually needs those reset or the closer replaced. Alignment is set at the top and bottom patch fittings with the leaf supported. We would not recommend doing this in-house — the leaf is heavy, and a slip means a replacement door rather than a repair.
Four decades of doors for names Ontario knows — Canada’s Wonderland, Tim Hortons, Canadian Tire, the LCBO, Metrolinx, Marriott & Hilton hotels, the University of Toronto — plus thousands of businesses across the GTA. Dependable people, quality products, since 1979.
