The buildings here are mostly health sciences and healthcare, public sector administration and light manufacturing, and each puts different demands on a door: traffic volume, insurance and fire requirements, and how much downtime an opening can afford. Broken commercial doors in Newmarket: we dispatch 24/7.
Newmarket is roughly a 55-minute run from our Mississauga shop — less if a technician is already in the area — so a truck is usually on site the same day.
Emergency board-up, security and make-safe first — permanent repair scheduled after.
Commercial door systems we install and repair in Newmarket
A commercial building runs on more kinds of door than most people ever count — a glass entrance out front, hollow metal on the exits, an overhead door on shipping, an operator on the accessible route. Canuck Door Systems supplies, installs and repairs all of them with one crew and one phone number, so "commercial doors" here means the whole building, not one product.
Hollow metal vs glass-aluminum doors
The two door systems a commercial building buys most, and they solve different problems. Hollow metal is strength: a steel slab in a welded steel frame, rated where it needs to be, indifferent to abuse. Glass and aluminum is presence: daylight, visibility and a storefront a customer walks up to. Most buildings need both — the question is which opening gets which.
Fire-rated doors in Newmarket: the label is the system
A fire-rated door is not a heavier door — it is a listed assembly. Door, frame, hardware and any glazing are tested together, and the rating on the label only holds while all of them match it. That is why a rated opening is specified and installed as one thing, and why swapping a closer or cutting a lite into a rated door in the field is not a small change.
Planned maintenance instead of emergency calls
Most of the door failures we attend didn't start that week — a dragging closer, a fraying overhead-door cable, a slower operator. A preventative-maintenance plan puts a technician in front of every door on a schedule: hardware adjusted, springs and cables inspected, operators tested, rated doors checked to close and latch on their own. Facility managers use it to turn door repair from a dispatch problem into a line item — and the 24/7 line is still there for the failures that don't wait.
Doors for the work Newmarket buildings do
The sectors that dominate Newmarket — health sciences and healthcare, public sector administration, light manufacturing — each ask something different of their doors.
Health sciences and healthcare
Low-energy swing operators and universal washroom packages for barrier-free routes, plus fire-rated corridor doors — openings where accessibility and code both have a say.
Light manufacturing
Plants take doors hard: hollow metal doors and frames for forklift and cart traffic, heavy-cycle overhead doors on shipping, and fire-rated doors on the separations between plant and office.
Retail trade
Storefront glass-aluminum entrances, same-day glass replacement and board-up after a break-in, and rolling security shutters or grilles for the hours the lights are off.
General contractors & new builds
For general contractors: hollow metal doors and frames supplied to the hardware schedule, glass-aluminum systems installed to spec, and fire-rated doors your inspector can sign off.
Logistics & warehousing
Shipping runs on dock levelers, dock seals and sectional or rolling steel overhead doors — and a bay door that won’t lift is a stopped truck, which is why these calls get 24/7 dispatch.
Food & pharma processing
Processing and clean environments call for double-acting traffic doors on busy corridors and sealed hollow metal doors that stand up to washdown and sanitation cycles.

Common questions about commercial doors
For a traffic door, is aluminum or fibreglass better?
For an interior traffic opening, neither is the usual answer. Most of these doors are ABS or polyethylene panels, sometimes over a solid core, with a metal or laminated facing where the abuse is heavier. Aluminum frames are common; aluminum leaves are not, because aluminum dents and stays dented. Laminated fibreglass is genuinely good in wet and washdown environments because it does not corrode or absorb. The choice should follow the environment — dry warehouse, wet kitchen, cold room — rather than a material preference.
What type of doors are best suited for exterior commercial use?
A galvannealed hollow metal door in a galvannealed welded frame, in 16 gauge or heavier where the traffic warrants it. The zinc-iron coating is what survives a salted Ontario winter; a factory-primed door left at an exterior opening will rust along the bottom rail within a season or two. Add a sweep and threshold so water leaves the opening, a thermal break where the space behind the door is heated, and stainless rather than paint where washdown or chemicals are involved. Aluminum and glass belong at the front of the building where appearance matters; steel belongs everywhere the door has a job other than being looked at.
What is a traffic door?
A double-acting door that swings both ways and closes itself, fitted in an opening people and equipment pass through constantly — a kitchen service opening, a stockroom entrance, an aisle between warehouse zones. There is no latch and usually no handle: you push through it, and it swings back to closed on its own hinges. That is the whole design brief, and everything else about the door follows from being hit thousands of times a year.
