The glass that goes back into a commercial opening in Cambridge

Commercial glazing is a small number of make-ups, not one product, and most openings combine two or three of them. Which one goes back into a broken opening in Cambridge is settled by three things: where the Ontario Building Code says safety glazing is required, how deep the glazing pocket is in the frame that is staying, and what broke the last one. Safety glazing is certified to CAN/CGSB-12.1, and in or beside a door it is not optional.

Broken glass repair, or replacing the window or door?

Most broken commercial glass in Cambridge is a glass job. The frame is straight, the anchoring is sound, the hardware still works, and only the lite has failed — so the opening is reglazed and nothing else changes. Replacement earns its place when the thing that failed is the frame: bent or corroded aluminum, a dead thermal break, or a glazing pocket too shallow for the unit the opening now needs. On a door there is a third answer that rarely gets offered — the leaf and frame stay, and the glass and the hardware around it are rebuilt in place.

Glass and windows for the work Cambridge buildings do

The sectors that dominate Cambridge — advanced manufacturing, logistics, transportation and warehousing, food and beverage processing — each break their glass in a different way.

Advanced manufacturing

Plant glass fails from vibration, impact and heat as often as from forced entry — a cracked vision lite in a shop door, a stressed pane beside a bay. We match the make-up to what broke it rather than putting the same lite back.

Logistics, transportation and warehousing

Glass in a distribution building is the office half: the entrance lite a driver walks through and the dispatch window onto the floor. A forklift catches one of them eventually, and the room has to be secure by the next shift, not next week.

Food and beverage processing

Vision panels and interior glazing in a food or pharma plant have to go back in cleanable and properly sealed, and the reglaze has to fit a sanitation window. We work the shutdown rather than asking for one.

Commercial retail and services

Shopfronts take the damage: forced entry overnight, a display bay hit from the pavement, a door lite starred by a cart. We board the opening the same night, measure while we are there, and glaze early enough that you trade the next morning.

Hotels & hospitality

A hotel or restaurant front cannot look boarded at dinner service. We secure the opening in a way that survives being photographed, and put the glass back — usually the entrance lite or a pane in the patio front — outside covers.

General contractors & new builds

On a live site the glass usually breaks after it is in: another trade catches a lite, or a unit arrives damaged. Replacing it against the glazing schedule without holding up the handover is the whole job.

Broken glass in Cambridge: board-up first, then the reglaze

If the opening is open to the street, call 800-522-6825 rather than filling this in — the line is answered 24 hours and the board-up comes first. For a cracked lite, a fogged unit or a quote to reglaze, tell us the opening and roughly how big it is.

Photos or shop drawings are enough to quote from, and most quotes go out within a day to a week. One-year warranty on products, three months on labour. BBB Rating A+.

Common questions about commercial glass & window repair

Will our insurance cover it, and can you invoice them?

Glass breakage is commonly covered, and the paperwork usually needs the same three things: photographs of the damage before anything is touched, an itemised invoice, and the date and time of the call-out. We photograph every emergency opening on arrival as a matter of course and itemise board-up and glazing separately, which is the format adjusters ask for. We invoice you, not your insurer.

How fast can you get there?

Crews dispatch from our shop at 1645 Bonhill Road in Mississauga, which is central to the GTA rather than at one end of it, and the emergency line is answered 24 hours a day. We will give you a real arrival window on the call based on where the crew is, and if the honest answer is three hours we say three hours. What we will not do is quote a fixed response time on a web page that no one can hold us to.

Can you fix a blown or fogged double-glazed unit?

The haze cannot be cleaned out — the moisture is sealed between the panes, on surfaces no one can reach. A double-glazed window is an insulating glass unit, and when the edge seal fails, humid air enters the cavity and condenses inside it. The unit gets replaced; the frame usually does not. That is planned reglazing rather than a repair, and it is covered on our window glass replacement page.
