Lazy Bear Lodge is a restaurant at Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan, built new, and Canuck was the subcontractor for every door on it: the exterior glass and aluminum, the bi-folds that open the dining room, and the hollow metal, wood and traffic doors inside. We covered the whole door division of the project, and did it within the client's budget.
The project was awarded in February 2022, and most of the work was done by August 2022. The park was open for part of that time, and that set the rules on site.

The exterior is mostly glass: the bi-folds fold back to open the dining room onto the patio, and the entrances and windows sit in the same 2500 series framing. Inside, the building needed three kinds of door: hollow metal, wood and traffic doors, all from the same supplier.
Two crews, side by side
The exterior and interior work ran at the same time, with a separate crew on each. The site was inside an open theme park, so every entry to site was timed around the park.
With a building this size, the job was split: one team on the exterior and one on the interior, working side by side. At the start, the crew visited the site to check that the openings and frame sizes agreed. Any damaged or defective part was replaced right away.
During the summer, getting on site before the park opened meant paying close attention to timing and to the safety of people on site and around it.
Lead times after COVID
Pre-production took two months: signing the contract, approving the drawings, and adding and removing items along the way. Delivery took longer than expected, because it was the summer construction season and lead times had not yet recovered from COVID. Small changes to some product sizes and hardware were made later, after the architectural drawings.
