Curaleaf was expanding the interior of its facility at 275 Orenda Road in Brampton, and the expansion needed doors: eighteen hollow metal doors in welded metal frames, with commercial hardware to match. Allyant Design, Engineering and Construction was the general contractor, and Canuck supplied and installed the doors, frames and hardware.
We were awarded the job in May 2025. The goal was simple: install each door as soon as its opening was ready.

Hollow metal is the standard door for commercial interiors that take hard use: a steel face over a reinforced core, hung in a steel frame. Welded frames are delivered as one rigid piece rather than assembled on site, so they hold their shape and keep the door aligned for years.
The hardware is heavy-duty throughout. The Schlage L-series is a grade 1 mortise lock, the highest commercial grade. The LCN 4040XP is a heavy-duty closer built for doors that are used all day. The Glynn-Johnson stops keep the doors from swinging into the walls.
Ordering doors for openings that didn't exist yet
The openings were not ready when the doors had to be ordered. The doors and frames were made to the sizes on the architectural drawings, and we gave the general contractor the opening size each door needed.
A welded frame cannot be adjusted on site. It is made to a size, and the opening has to match it. When the openings are still being built, there are two ways to go: wait for them, or order from the drawings and make sure the openings are built to fit.
On this job we did the second. The drawings were approved in August, the products went into production right away, and we gave the general contractor a list of the opening sizes each door required. We also made site visits before installation, to check the openings against that list.
Most openings were ready when the doors arrived. Some had been built to the wrong size, and those were corrected right away, so the installation still finished on time.

Why use welded frames instead of knock-down frames?
A welded frame arrives as one rigid piece, so it stays square and keeps the door aligned. A knock-down frame is assembled on site and is easier to fit into a finished wall, but it is less rigid. This job used welded frames throughout.
Can steel doors be ordered before the openings are built?
Yes, if the openings are then built to suit the doors. On this job the doors were ordered from the architectural drawings, and the general contractor was given the opening size for each one.
What does grade 1 hardware mean?
Grade 1 is the highest commercial grade for locks and closers, tested for the heaviest use. This job used Schlage L-series grade 1 mortise locks and LCN 4040XP closers.
