At 5260, 5266 and 5270 Solar Drive in Mississauga, three newly built buildings of rental warehouse units needed their hollow metal man doors. For Carpentry Canada Ltd, Canuck supplied and installed all of them: 53 exterior hollow metal doors in welded frames, with glazed transoms and hardware.
The job began as a supply contract: doors and frames delivered, not installed. Partway through, the client asked us to install the doors as well, and we did.

Each door has a glazed transom above it, glazed with insulated tempered glass, which brings daylight into the unit over the door. With the door in a welded frame, the whole opening arrives as one rigid unit, which is what an exterior warehouse door needs.
Ordered from the drawings
To meet the timeline, the doors and frames were ordered to the sizes on the architectural drawings, rather than waiting until the openings were built and could be measured.
On a new building, waiting for the openings before ordering the doors adds weeks. So the frames and doors were made to the drawings and delivered ready for the openings. The goal was to install each door as soon as its opening was ready.
That approach has a known cost. Some openings came out a little off the drawings, so the crew adjusted the frames on site and caulked where the gaps were larger.
Doors out, machinery in
Other trades were still working in the buildings, and some of them needed to move big machinery in and out. Where a new door was in the way, it was removed and reinstalled afterwards.
We received the project in February 2022. The products were ready on time, but the openings were delayed, and the job was completed in April 2023.

Yes, by ordering to the architectural drawings. It saves weeks on a new building. Some openings will come out slightly different from the drawings, so expect some adjustment and caulking on site, as on this job.
Why put a glazed transom over a warehouse door?
It brings daylight into the unit above the door, without adding a window to the wall. On this job every door has a transom of insulated tempered glass.
Can a supply contract become supply and install?
