Double Metal Doors Replacement in Toronto: 17 Electrical Room Doors Replaced Across a Downtown Townhome Community
Seventeen pairs of hollow metal doors in metal frames, with new hardware, replacing the old electrical room doors across a downtown Toronto townhome community. Each exterior door was removed, replaced and locked the same day, and the whole job was installed in the second half of May 2024.

A townhome community in downtown Toronto has its electrical rooms at the base of its brick buildings, each behind a pair of steel doors. The old doors were due for replacement. Canuck removed and hauled away the old doors and supplied and installed seventeen new pairs of hollow metal doors in metal frames, with new hardware.
We received the project at the end of March 2024 and put the products into production right away. Installation ran from mid-May to the end of May 2024. It was, by our own account, a straightforward job, and the reasons are worth knowing.

An electrical room door does one job: keep people out of a room they should not be in, whatever the weather. Hollow metal is the right door for it. It is tough, it does not rot or warp outdoors, and it holds its hardware securely.
Every door locked by the end of the day
These are exterior doors to electrical rooms. Any door the crew started had to be finished, and locked, the same day.
An electrical room cannot be left open overnight. So the rule on this job was simple: a door that was started was completed the same day. That sets the pace of the work. The crew takes on only as many openings as it can finish, rather than removing several old doors at once and fitting the new ones later.

The site is downtown, and parking close to the door openings was hard to find. Some of the doors also face the street, so the crew had to work without blocking the road or the sidewalk.
