Commercial Entrance Doors in North York: New Openings, Storefront Doors and Windows for Balkool at 68 Tycos Drive
The exterior glass and aluminum storefront doors and windows at 68 Tycos Drive, North York, replaced in Commdoor 2500 series framing with 175 series doors for Balkool Inc., some of them into new openings cut on site. The main work was finished in the first week of October 2022, against an end-of-September target, despite COVID restrictions.

At 68 Tycos Drive in North York, Balkool Inc. had the exterior glass and aluminum storefront doors and windows replaced. Some of the new doors and windows were going into new openings, cut into the walls for the job. Balkool came to Canuck directly, and we supplied and installed the lot.
The target was the end of September 2022. The main work was finished in the first week of October, with a few minor items completed afterwards.

The building's front is white render, and some of the entrances sit at the top of a set of steps with a window on either side. The new doors and frames sit in the same aluminum framing family, so every entrance matches.
New openings, and the trade cutting them
Some of the openings were being cut new. Before any installation was scheduled, we made several visits to work with the trade cutting them, so the new frames would fit.
When openings are cut new, the frame and the opening are being made at the same time by two different trades. If they do not agree, the frame arrives and the opening is the wrong size. On this job we made multiple visits to work with the trade making the cut-outs, and checked each opening before scheduling the installation.
A few minor design issues came up along the way, and they were solved by working closely with the manufacturer and the client. Because the site visits had been done, the installation itself went smoothly.
A few days past the target
The client had been given a 6–8 week lead time and a deadline of the end of September. COVID-19 restrictions slowed things down, and the main project was completed in the first week of October, with some minor deficiencies finished afterwards.
