Commercial Aluminum Window Systems in Vaughan: A Clear Anodized Entrance and Awning Windows for Canada's Wonderland

The Operations Building at Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan is a long, single-storey brick building that the park's staff work out of. Its envelope needed modernising, and the park wanted aluminum: a new glass entrance and new windows, in a finish that would stand up to a theme park and look as professional as the rest of the site. Canada's Wonderland ran the project itself, and Canuck supplied and installed the glazing.

The date was set before the job started. The park opens in May, and every bit of exterior work had to be finished, and the site cleared, before the first guests came through the gates.

What went in

Everything is aluminum in a clear anodized finish. The park chose it for two reasons: it gives every opening the same uniform, professional look, and it is durable. An anodized finish is part of the metal rather than a coating on it, so it stands up to heavy use and to years of weather.

The entrance is an aluminum glass door with a matching sidelite, in the same framing and finish. A sidelite (a fixed glass panel beside the door) lets more light into the entry and lets people see who is coming through before they open it.

The windows combine awning windows, which open outwards from a hinge at the top, with fixed glass panels. The awnings let in fresh air, and the fixed panels give strength and daylight. Combined in one frame, they give the wall a single, even look instead of a patchwork of different window types.

The door has commercial-grade hardware, and all of the glazing is insulated glass units. Every opening was caulked and flashed to keep water out and heat in.

Two months, and May was fixed

The whole job, from ordering the material to handing the building back, had to fit into about two months. Nothing could still be on site when the park opened, so the site had to be cleared before May 1.

Two months is short for custom aluminum. The frames are fabricated to the measured openings, so the schedule depends on measuring early, ordering quickly and installing in one go once the material arrives. The work ran in March and April 2025.

Weather was the other risk. Spring in Ontario can mean frost one week and rain the next, and glazing and sealing both need suitable conditions. A schedule this short has little room for lost days.

The work finished on time. The building was secure and weather-tight before the busy season began, and the crew was off site before opening day.

Getting the awning and fixed windows to line up
