At Canuck Door Systems, we pride ourselves on delivering top-tier solutions for commercial and industrial projects across Ontario. One such remarkable project is the Metelix-95 Van Kirk Expansion, where our team played a crucial role in providing a variety of doors, framing, glazing, and more for the site.
The 95 Van Kirk Expansion project was a comprehensive undertaking where Canuck Door System was tasked with supplying and installing an array of products, including aluminum framing, glazing, metal doors, wood doors, rolling steel doors, automatic operators, and frameless partition walls. This project was carried out for Metelix, with Bdd Gc Ltd as the general contractor.
Our work primarily involved Division 08, where we contributed to enhancing the building’s structural and functional features. The focus was maintaining the timeline, coordinating with other trades, and ensuring high craftsmanship across all installations.
The primary goal of this project was to stay on schedule while seamlessly coordinating with other trades on-site. We were tasked with closing the building before winter, allowing interior work to proceed. It was crucial to manage product changes efficiently, ensuring we delivered exactly what the client needed.
Our team encountered several constraints during the project, including overlapping trades working in the same areas. To mitigate safety concerns and maintain project momentum, we adapted by working after hours and on weekends. This strategy allowed us to complete our scope of work, minimizing disruptions quickly.
Another challenge was the delivery of interior products to the second floor. To expedite the process, we delivered materials through exterior windows, streamlining installation without compromising safety.
The Canuck Door System team utilized a wide range of high-quality products for the 95 Van Kirk Expansion:
- Aluminum Framing: WindSpec 655 series
- Glazing: High-performance glazing systems
- Metal Doors: Daybar products
- Wood Doors: Masonite doors
- Partition Glass Walls: Oldcastle systems
- Handicap Operators: Ditec automatic operators
- Rolling Steel Doors: Cookson doors
Each product was carefully selected to meet the client’s specifications and provide long-lasting durability and performance.
We began the project in May and promptly submitted the necessary shop drawings within two weeks. By August and into September, we had confirmed drawings for the products, which were then fabricated and delivered according to the client’s schedule.
Canuck Door System utilized three specialized teams, each focusing on specific areas of the project. This approach allowed us to manage changes and keep the project on track efficiently. Our coordinators maintained constant communication with the client, promptly addressing any deficiencies.
The 95 Van Kirk Expansion stands as a testament to Canuck Door System team’s commitment to quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction. By working closely with the general contractor and adjusting to challenges on the ground, we delivered a successful project that met all the client’s needs.
