Canuck Door Systems collaborated with St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton to restore their multi-level parking garage, which included three ramps. As part of the project, we supplied and installed new metal doors with specialized hardware, replacing outdated systems. The restoration enhanced security and functionality, tailored to the client’s unique requirements.
The primary goal was to complete the installation of doors on each ramp one at a time, allowing patients and visitors continuous access to the garage without interrupting traffic flow. The project began in April 2022, with product approvals finalized by June. Most of the work for ramps 1 and 2 was completed by December 2022, while ramp 3, delayed due to weather constraints, was completed in May 2023.
Weather played a significant role in scheduling, as the doors and frames needed to be painted before winter. Product delivery had to be carefully timed as the site wasn’t ready to receive them toward the end of the year. We worked closely with our manufacturers and coordinated with the general contractor to ensure everything was prepared for the appropriate weather conditions.
We installed 89 exterior hollow metal doors and welded metal frames with the following hardware: Von Duprin 22EOF 689 Panic Bars, Von Duprin 230LBE689RHR panic bar trim, Schlage ND96BDRHO lever locks, LCN 4040XP PA 689 closers, and Glynn-Johnson 90 Series door stops. These high-end products were chosen for their durability and reliability, which aligns with the client’s request for robust hardware.
First, close collaboration with the manufacturers and the general contractor ensured all products were delivered and installed on time despite the challenges. Second, the team’s adaptability was crucial, as adjustments were made to accommodate weather conditions, particularly for ramp 3, where installation was delayed until the warmer spring months of 2023. Finally, the use of upgraded, durable hardware, chosen to meet the client’s stringent safety and security standards, ensured the long-term reliability and success of the project
Despite delays caused by weather, the project was completed, with all three ramps restored by May 2023. The new doors and frames improved the parking garage’s appearance and security and ensured long-lasting performance.
